On Monday, a court handed down five-year prison terms to four Kuwaitis convicted of training with Osama bin Laden’s al-Qaeda organization and undermining Kuwait's political relations through contacts with an unnamed foreign country.

Mohsen al-Fadli, 21, Maqbool Fahad al-Maqbool, Mohammed al-Mutairi, 25 and Adel Yussif Buhaimed, 35, were found guilty by a Kuwaiti court of "joining the military forces of a foreign country which endangered Kuwait's political ties."

An explanation of the ruling said the four had traveled to Afghanistan to train with arms and to use them to join the Taliban and fight under al-Qaeda against Americans.

The men were arrested in November on suspicion of being members of the al-Qaeda network and “helping finance terrorist attacks in the Gulf”, AFP reported.

The four denied during their trial that they belonged to the terror network or that they had ever been to Afghanistan. (Albawaba.com)
