Somalian police and a speaker for the al-Shabaab militant group annouced that al-Shabaab attacked the presidential palace in Mogadishu with mortar guns.

At least for people were killed and eight others were wounded, according to initial reports.

Al-Shabaab set their mortars for the palace, but the mortars exploded prematurely. The bombs ended up 300 meters away from the target, and exploded next to the parliament building.

The military speaker for Al-Shabaab, Sheik Abdelazi Abu Musaab, said in a press statement:

“We had thrown mortars on what is called presidential palace”.

Al-Shabaab is affiliated with Al-Qaeda, though some branches have switched affiliation to Daesh. Their attacks usually target government buildings, hotels that foreigners frequent, and state forces in Mogadishu.
