Egypt is due to hold talks with Iran aimed at normalizing diplomatic ties broken off after the 1979 Islamic revolution, Foreign Minister Ahmed Maher said in comments published Sunday.
The decision to go forward with the rapprochement came after a meeting with Iranian Foreign Minister Kamal Kharazi on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly earlier this month, Maher told government dailies in Cairo.
The ministers agreed that the two countries' embassies to the United Nations would hold talks on the remaining obstacles to a full restoration of relations, Maher said. (Albawaba.com)
