Suspected members of Osama bin Laden’s al-Qaeda network and other groups had been found to be carrying false Sudanese passports, Sudan's Foreign Minister Mustafa Ismail was quoted as saying Tuesday.

Ismail told SUNA news agency that various Western countries had contacted Sudan after suspects had been picked up with fake passports, adding that local Sudanese embassies were checking the documents.

In addition, the Foreign Minister said contacts with Washington indicated that Sudanese being held at the US base of Guantanamo Bay, on suspicion of being members of al-Qaeda "will be acquitted and released."

Moreover, he said Khartoum would not object to United States security measures for visitors from a number of countries, including Sudan, "provided that those measures are taken legally, humanely, in observation of human rights and without targeting the Sudan." (Albawaba.com)
