Iranian President Mohammed Khatami Monday starts a regional tour of Bahrain, Lebanon, Syria and Yemen mainly for talks on the Palestinian-Israeli conflict and Iraq.
He will hold talks with Bahrain's King Hamad, Syrian President Bashar al Assad, Lebanese President Emile Lahoud and Yemeni President Ali Abdullah Saleh.
Khatami, who is expected in Beirut Monday, is the first Iranian head of state to visit Lebanon since the 1979 Islamic revolution. During his three-day tour to Lebanon, Khatami will hold talks with senior Lebanese officials and address a group of Muslim and non-Muslim Lebanese scholars at the UNESCO office in Beirut, said Iran's Deputy Foreign Minister for Arab-African Affairs Seyed Mohammad Sadr.
