The first ferry service from Qatar to Iraq set sail from Doha port on Friday with 39 passengers aboard, all Iraqi nationals, reported the Gulf Times newspaper.

The vessel, Al Salam Taba I, operated by Bahrain-based Tylos Ferry, will first call at Manama and then head to Iraq’s Umm Qasr port, which is about 480km from Baghdad.

Most of the passengers were with their families.

“The vessel is expected to reach Umm Qasr tomorrow,” said Salem Al Qahtani, an official of Qatar International Travel, the agents for the service in Qatar.

The ship, which had left for Mumbai on June 19 on its second cruise to India, returned to Doha earlier Friday. The vessel, which is expected to return to Doha on Tuesday, is scheduled to set sail for Kochi, India on the same day, the official added – Albawaba.com
