Search teams have detected pinging from the "black box" voice and data recorders of the hijacked American Airlines jetliner that crashed into the Pentagon, a firefighter said Thursday.
"I understand that they first picked up the signal last night -- and again today," Scott McKay, the Arlington County, Virginia firefighter told CNN.
McKay said firefighters were told at their morning briefing about the pinging from the box's transponder.
"We haven't actually gotten the black box. We've got it narrowed down, I believe is what they said. So we're anticipating we're going to find it," he said.
