Multi-award winning transnational, eSys Technologies Pte Ltd (eSys) yesterday ( July 26, 2006), celebrated the official opening of its new office premises in Singapore which house its Global Headquarters and integrated warehousing and PC manufacturing hub. Spread across 150,000 square feet, the state-of-the-art manufacturing facility located at the Changi industrial zone in Singapore is one of the four manufacturing facilities of eSys. Other such manufacturing facilities are located in California (USA), Jebel Ali in Dubai (UAE) and New Delhi (India). There are two proposed manufacturing facilities, in Amsterdam (Netherlands) and another in North India.
Incorporated in 2000, eSys is one of the fastest growing IT companies in the world with three distinct business verticals – Technology Distribution, PC Business and Business Process and IT Services. With staff strength of more than a 1000 across the globe and 30,000 business customers, eSys, headquartered in Singapore is also the largest hard disk drive distribution company with a global market share of 23 per cent.
All the manufacturing facilities of eSys, including the new one in Singapore, are integrated with its regional supply chain (warehousing) hubs, enabling it to have lower inventory holding costs and a shorter time to market. eSys’ comprehensive facilities offer full range of services including kitting, assembly, software loading and logistics. Currently the manufacturing facility in Singapore has four lines with a production capacity of 1.5 million units per annum expandable to three million units per annum. eSys has developed proprietary software which minimizes human intervention in manufacturing, Testing and Quality control. Many activities including testing and OS Loading are done automatically.
eSys shifted its production base from China to Singapore in 2004 when Vikas Goel, Chairman and Managing Director of eSys, realized that it would be an economically viable idea. “It was again about thinking out of the box and making your calculations. If you take into perspective all direct and indirect costs, setting the production base in Singapore works out to be at least 40 per cent cheaper for us than being headquartered in China. The common mindset among most people is that Singapore is expensive and China is cheap. But in this case, utilizing Singapore as a hub for our global manufacturing has proven to be a dramatic cost cutting measure.”
At the official opening ceremony, Vikas Goel also announced the launch of the eSys Foundation which will work towards the delivery of education and healthcare benefits to remote and underprivileged societies of the world. eSys has pledged a seed capital of SG $1 million. Over the next three to five years it will pump in an additional SG $5 million.
Vikas Goel, commenting on the rationale behind the setting up of the foundation said, “In line with our vision of bridging the digital divide, we have established the eSys Foundation, which will provide education and healthcare to people in underprivileged societies around the world. The foundation will leverage on our business model based on the concept of Shared Services and Optimized Technology Infrastructure.”
