Syria's President Bashar al-Assad and his wife on Thursday arrived in Sharm al-Sheikh on a visit to Egypt. They were welcomed at Sharm al-Sheikh Airport by President Mohammed Hosni Mubarak of Egypt and his wife.
Presidents Assad and Mubarak held a meeting following their arrival to al-Tower hotel. Both sides stressed the need to preserve the unity of Lebanon, cautioning against moves that could increase sectarian tensions in the country, it was said follwing the talks. "Concern now should be concentrated on guaranteeing Lebanon does not slide back into sectarian divisions that bring to mind an era that nobody desires," Egyptian presidential spokesman Suleiman Awad told reporters.
