Egyptian mega-star Samira Ahmad has donated 10,000 Egyptian pounds to the 1st Alexandria Film Festival in a show of support for scriptwriters.
The actress donated the money to be awarded to the best new scriptwriter of an Egyptian film.
Another famous actress, Najla’a Fathi, had earlier done the same by donating an equal amount of money to encourage independent talent and step away from commercial films whose sole aim to make money.
Meanwhile, actor Mahmoud Himeda donated 30,000 Egyptian pounds to the Alexandria festival, to be given to the best Egyptian Producer of the year.
It is well known that the Egyptian Cinema is going through a rough patch these days, especially since production companies are adamant on releasing only commercial movies-Albawaba.com.
