An Egyptian river patrol rescued seven Dutch tourists from drowning in the Nile after their sailboat overturned in strong crosswinds near the southern town of Aswan, the state-run MENA news agency reported Thursday, cited by AFP.

The tourists were traveling in a rented sailboat to the temple town of Kom Ombo late Wednesday night when the accident occurred, the report said.

Aswan, which is 650 kilometers (400 miles) south of Cairo, is popular with foreign tourists for its riverside vistas and nearby island temples.

This was the second incident in the river in nine days.

On October 31, two Nile river ferries collided near the historic town of Luxor, leaving more than 20 dead.

The boats were transporting passengers across the river when they crashed into each other. One ferry, carrying about 30 people, sank. The other made it safely to shore – Albawaba.com
