Druze leader Walid Jumblat has urged Washington to occupy Syria and oust its current regime as it did in Iraq. According to the Thursday's edition of A Safir newspaper, the Druze parliamentarian made these comments during a telephone interview with an American daily.

In addition, Jumblat said Iran was using its influence on the Syrian regime and Hizbullah for the sake of Tehran's strategic fight against Israel. The anti-Syrian politician termed as a "storm" the dramatic interview which former Syrian vice-president Abdel-Halim Khaddam gave to Al-Arabiya television last week in which he sharply criticized President Assad's policies. But, Jumblat warned that this development might be dangerous for Lebanon, saying "every time the Syrians are facing more pressure, they are intensifying their hostilities here."

According to Jumblat, the best solution for the current situation will be to oust President Assad and try him in an international court as happened with former Serbian leader Slobodan Milosevic.
