The Department of Economic Development (DED) announced that it would hold a 'Quality Activities Week' from June 4– 8, 2005 as part of its effort to emphasize the significance of quality initiatives at all levels within and outside the Department. The week-long event includes several schemes to promote quality across all divisions at the DED, in addition to spreading the message of excellence to the wider community.
"Continuous and holistic improvement is essential to the sustained growth of an organization and the DED has always been on the lookout to upgrade its performance and reinforce its image as a customer friendly department," said Ali Ibrahim, Deputy Director General for Executive Affairs, DED. "The quality activities week being organized at the DED is an attempt to reach out to our internal stakeholders and ensure that the concept of excellence permeates down to every level," he added.
The 'quality activities week' will kick off with an opening ceremony on Saturday June 4, 2005. Some of the events planned during the week include seminars on quality management techniques by well-known industry experts, and an exhibition of established practices by acknowledged leaders of quality in Dubai's business community. In addition, several opinion boxes will be set up across the department inviting observations and remarks, which will enable the department to implement sustainable improvements.
The DED also plans to include its external stakeholders in this campaign and has set up a daily comment segment for DED customers, which enables them to win instant prizes by offering proactive ideas for implementation.
"Quality cannot be imposed from outside without upgrading personal excellence," said Abdullah Al Helou, Director, Excellence and Productivity, DED. "During this week we aim to further boost our employee self image and also strengthen the Department's existing relationships with the families of the employees," he added.
Comprehensive health checks for all employees, a fun-day for the children of employees, raffle prizes and other initiatives promise to make this week an enjoyable one for every one, alongside emphasizing the message that quality initiatives need to cascade down to every aspect of the individual.
