A 24-year-old Jordanian man was sentenced to death on Thursday by the Criminal Court after he was convicted of robbing and murdering a jeweler and a taxi driver in 1999, said The Jordan Times.
The court convicted Bader Ramadan of robbing and killing Dargham Barqawi, 50, in his jewelry shop in Jabal Hussein on February 27 and of killing Zuhair Ishaq, 25, a taxi driver in the Arajan area on September 9, the daily said.
According to court papers, the defendant killed the two with the help of his friend Jareer Mazen, 25.
The 24-page verdict said Ramadan and Mazen, who were friends since 1991, plotted to rob Barqawi's jewelry shop.
On the day of the incident, the two convicts entered the shop located on Khalid Ibn Al Walid Street and demanded cash and jewelry, said the paper.
“When the shopowner refused to comply, Ramadan drew an unlicensed gun and shot the victim twice in the chest,” the court said.
The robbers then fled with some jewellery which Mazen later sold in Aqaba. He gave JD300 to Ramadan, the court said.
Seven months later, the two plotted to rob a bank in Wasfi Tal Street, the sheet added.
The two flagged down a taxi driver, Ishaq, and asked him to drive them to a deserted area in Arjan. When they tried to get the driver to abandon his car, he refused, and Ramadan shot him twice in the back of the head.
The two then fled the scene leaving the car running near a hospital in Jabal Hussein.
The second crime was discovered two weeks later, when criminal lab tests indicated that the bullets extracted from Mazen and his female friend matched the ones that killed the taxi driver, it added – Albawaba.com
