US President Bill Clinton said Wednesday that the earlier attack on the US destroyer Cole at the Aden port was an attack on the United States and Yemen, and was aimed at harming "their good bilateral relations," reported the Kuwait News Agency (KUNA).
The naval destroyer was bombed October 12 during a refueling stop in Aden harbor, killing 17 US sailors.
Clinton's remarks, said the agency, came in a message to Yemeni President Ali Abdullah Saleh.
Clinton commended the "good bilateral cooperation between the two countries in unveiling the assailants and realizing justice."
On Tuesday, the United States offered as much as five million dollars for information leading to the arrest or conviction of the people who carried out the attack, said AFP.
Reward money will be given to anyone who can provide "information that could lead to the arrest or conviction in any country of the persons responsible for the Cole attack," State Department spokesman Richard Boucher said.
Boucher said the reward offer should not be seen as a sign of stagnation in the investigation.
"The investigation continues and the cooperation remains very, very good," Boucher told reporters.
Earlier this month, Yemeni police arrested someone they deemed a prime suspect in the attack, who implicated alleged terrorist leader Osama bin Laden in the Cole bombing, added AFP -- Albawaba.com
