The Tunisian President, Zine el-Abidine Ben Ali, has held discussions with the visiting Director of the United States Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) George Tenet, who's been visiting the Middle East and North Africa.

On Tuesday, BBC reported that Tunisian officials said the two reviewed efforts to combat international terrorism as well as the latest developments in the Israel- Palestinian conflict.

The CIA Director’s visit to Tunisia coincides with growing criticism of President Ben Ali by human rights groups who accuse him of abuses in his treatment of both Islamist and liberal opposition groups.

Tenet has visited thus far Saudi Arabia, Yemen and Egypt in recent days. (Albawaba.com)
