ALBAWABA - U.S. Senator Lindsey Graham passed away at the age of 71 on Saturday, according to a statement by his office.
Graham, who is known for being a close ally of U.S. President Donald Trump, died after a "brief and sudden illness," the statement read.
The Office of Lindsey Graham posted on Sunday: "On the evening of Saturday, July 11, U.S. Senator Lindsey Graham passed away from a brief and sudden illness. Senator Graham's family appreciates prayers at this time and asks for privacy during this incredibly difficult period."

Cause behind US Senator Lindsey Graham's death unveiled
According to U.S. media, US Senator Lindsey Graham suffered from a "cardiac arrest" leading to his death.
Emergency personnel were called over a cardiac arrest inside the American senator's house in the Capitol Hill neighborhood in Washington, D.C.
NBC News reported after reviewing pictures that emergency personnel were spotted transferring a person on a stretcher to an awaiting ambulance, near the Senator's house, where police cars and fire trucks were seen.
Graham represented South Carolina for over 20 years and was planning to run for re-election in November's midterm elections.

"Senator Lindsey Graham, one of the greatest people and Senators I have ever known, is dead! He was always working, and was a true American Patriot. Lindsey will be greatly missed!!!" U.S. President Trump said.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said the country lost "one of its greatest friends" with the death of Lindsey Graham.
