An airplane carrying 325 pilgrims was forced to make an emergency landing Tuesday after running into "technical problems", shortly after its departure for the Saudi Red Sea city of Jeddah, airport officials said.
Syamsuddin Hoteng, public relations officer for Hasanuddin Airport in Makassar, South Sulawesi, northeast of Jakarta, said the emergency landing took place smoothly.
"The emergency landing was normal and there were no problems with the pilgrims on board," Hoteng told the state-run Antara news agency.
The British Airways airplane, a Boeing 767-300, which was chartered by national carrier Garuda Indonesia, ran into unspecified "technical problems", 30 minutes after departure from Makassar, Hoteng said. (Albawaba.com)
