Batelco Jordan has sponsored the power breakfast of the Information Technology Association (Intaj) Thursday May 4th 2006, at the Four Seasons Hotel. The meeting comes after His Majesty King Abdullah II demanded a new strategy from officials of the ICT sector and focused on major milestones in the upcoming ICT industry.
Mr. Marwan Juma, Chief Executive Officer of Batelco Jordan, highlighted the real need of investing in human resources and stressed on the importance of providing opportunities for new graduates and heavy investment in their training. Juma also elaborated on the immediate requirement in decreasing the increasing gap between skills and market demands, in collaboration with Minister of Higher Education.
If formed, the strategy will be the second in the Kingdom’s ICT sector after the 5-year Reach Initiative that was launched in 1995 in response to His Majesty’s directions to provide 30,000 new job opportunities, achieving $150 million and $550 million annual IT exports.
Officials from the ICT sector emphasized that His Majesty’s directions to form a new strategy reflects his interest in developing the sector, highlighting the importance of such a move in line with the rapid change in the sector.
Furthermore, number of local and international telecommunication and technology companies attended the meeting in addition to His Excellency, Engineer Omar Al Kurdi, Minister of ICT; His Excellency, Minister of Industry and Commerce, Mr. Sharif al Zoubi; Mr. Abdullah Wreikat from the Economic Department at the Royal Hashemite Court and the Director of USAID in Jordan, Anne Arnes.
