Bahrain will allocate $5.5 billion to set up housing projects in the Gulf state, Prime Minister Sheikh Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa said on Sunday.

“The emphasis will be on improving housing in villages, but towns will also benefit if they lack necessary facilities,” said the premier, quoted by the Gulf Daily News.

“The National Housing Scheme will be spearheaded by Crown Prince and BDF Commander-in-Chief Shaikh Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, who will chair a committee charged with looking into the housing situation in every village, town and area of Bahrain.”

The committee will consider whether to establish new housing sites in new towns and may reclaim land for the purpose.

The premier stressed the need to carry out the projects in a relatively short time.

“Our goal is to accommodate our people in suitable housing units,” he said.

The committee in charge of the project will invite international companies specialized in designing and executing modern construction projects to submit their bids, said the paper – Albawaba.com
