Austria launches its Ski Extravaganza in Ski Dubai

Visitors of the Ski resort in Ski Dubai at Mall of the Emirates will have the chance to glimpse and taste the Austrian winter life when they visit the resort from March 8 to 12th as dancers and ski performers will display Austria’s rich heritage and culture as you ski through magnificent displays of the unique tourist highlights, collect folkloric souvenirs, and visit the country’s Famous ski resorts, including the prestigious Styrian Ski resort and tranquil Styrian spa region.


Dr. Nikolaus Seiwald, Commercial Counselor, Austrian Embassy, Abu Dhabi said during a press conference held to announce the Ski Week that is being organized with the Austrian Tourist authorities: ”I have been delighted, when I heard that an Austrian Ski Week will transplant our skiing culture to Dubai into the world largest ski hall in “Ski Dubai”.

He added ”The event promises the visitors of Ski Dubai to taste this sensational sporty life style in Dubai and prepare for your ski holiday in our snowy winters in Austria”.

In the midst of soaring ski acrobats and brilliant snowboarders presenting stunning jumps and exceptional shows on Ski Dubai slopes, visitors to the facility will have the chance to enjoy small journey through the history of skiing with performers using authentic equipment reviving more than 100 years in the making of one of the world’s most thrilling sports.

All that and more put under the umbrella of a flow of traditional Austrian music and dance performances on the slope creating an incomparable Austrian atmosphere. Then, wrap up your day with festive après ski parties, where all guests are more than welcome to participate in Austrian shows and games as part of the week’s active gaming area featuring the newest game by JoWood: ”Ski Racing 2006“ that will be available on notebooks sponsored by Lenovo.

The Commercial counselor also pointed out that the event is held in Ski Dubai to promote the Styria region in Austria with its wide diversity that ranges from
magnificent mountains suitable for hikers, cyclists and other outdoor enthusiasts, to the near 3,000 m high Dachstein, 800 peaks of 2,000 m, 3,500 alpine pastures, 6 nature reserves and one national park.

“Southeast Styria with its six thermal spas has become the nation’s most attractive wellness tourist destination,” he said

Phil Taylor, CEO Ski Dubai welcomed the Austria Week in the Middle East’s only ski resort saying that the resort was built for exactly such events that would allow the public in the region to get a flair and glimpse of living in sub-zero temperatures and provides them with the opportunity to know more about skiing and its related activities.

“We would like to encourage the public to not only learn more about skiing but to also enjoy the sport as there is a permanent world class facility in Dubai that can cater to their needs and offer them an attractive and passionate winter sport,” Phil stressed.

The press conference was also attended by Sabine Dodier, from the Austrian Internationalisation Centre, Evita Muhlbacher, from the Styrian Tourism Board and  Bernd Kreuzinger, Superfund Director, Head Middle East.
