Syria's President Bashar Al-Assad slammed what he called the "war government" of Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon, in a meeting in Damascus on Thursday with U.N. Middle East coordinator Terje Roed-Larsen.
"The Sharon government is a war government which cannot survive without starting wars," Assad said, quoted by the official SANA news agency.
The Syrian leader and Roed-Larsen held talks focused on Israel's air strike Saturday night on what Israel described as a Palestinian training camp near Damascus, a claim strongly denied by Syria.
According to SANA, the U.N. envoy expressed "extreme disappointment" over the air raid, stressing UN Secretary General’s solidarity with Syria.
Larsen also welcomed Syria’s "wise" response through the return to the Security Council, the report added. (Albawaba.com)
