Syria’s President Bashar al-Assad discussed with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin on Saturday plans to coordinate their positions ahead of a key United Nations Security Council meeting on Iraq.

Assad and Putin, during a phone conversation, "discussed the efforts being made to prevent an attack against Iraq," according to SANA news agency.

They "agreed for a peaceful solution in Iraq, and especially that the mission of UN weapons inspectors was not yet finished." (Albawaba.com)
