Syrian President Bashar al-Assad arrived in Tehran on Sunday in a flash visit for talks on regional developments, mainly the Iraq crisis, IRNA reported.

Assad, who is accompanied by the his deputy Abd al-Halim Khaddam and Foreign Minister Farouq al-Shara, is to hold talks with his Iranian counterpart Mohammad Khatami and Supreme Leader Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei in his one-day visit.

The visit is Assad's second to the Islamic Republic over the past year.

Assad was scheduled to travel to Iran in January to discuss the Iraq crisis, but his visit was postponed indefinitely. Both countries, neighbors of Iraq, strongly oppose a U.S. military invasion. (Albawaba.com)
