BenQ, the region’s leader in digital lifestyle products, has witnessed an unprecedented surge in demand for LCD televisions and projectors across the Middle East since the start of the 15th Asian Games in Doha.
A potential TV audience of 1.5 billion people from the 45 countries taking part and beyond has been tuning in since the Games opened in Qatar on December 1.
Viewing figures in the Middle East are expected to be huge and the scale of the home TV audience across the region impressive. For the millions watching at home and in offices and restaurants, BenQ has been at the forefront of providing the latest consumer electronic products to make the 15th Asian Games an unmissable experience.
“We are delighted people have chosen BenQ products to view such a high profile event and one which is of paramount importance to the Middle East,” said Manish Bakshi, general manager, BenQ Middle East and Africa.
“The global TV market is forecast to grow from an estimated US$ 25 billion in sales and 21 million units shipped in 2005 to US$ 85 billion and over 101 million units shipped in 2009. In the Middle East, we expect a 226 per cent growth – total units shipped will increase from 72,000 to 235,000 units by 2009. BenQ is proud to be providing the means by which millions can have the best seats in the stadium while being thousands of miles away,” Bakshi added.
In Doha, BenQ works with its channel partner Doha Communications and has a well established presence in the market. The company registered 143 per cent growth in LCD monitors in 2006 and a 25 per cent market share. BenQ leads the projector market in the region and outpaced rivals to notch up market share of a record 28 per cent. The vendor has 28 per cent market share in projectors in Qatar with 50 per cent growth in revenue over 2005.
“BenQ television sets, above 26 inches, are delivered free of charge in Qatar,” said George Thomas, general manager, Doha Communications. “This facility is extended to high end models as well – models can be wall mounted free of cost as well. This is another attractive sales service we offer our customers in Qatar.”
BenQ has focused on products like LCD TVs and projectors to improve its market reach, frequency and penetration in the Middle East. Currently, it is the number three producer of LCD monitors in the region and holds the number two position in the regional projector market, according to recent BNA and DTC research respectively.
