The Algerian telecommunication enterprise Mobilink assigned Ascom the supply of a comprehensive payphone solution for Algeria. The order has a value of over CHF 10 million and covers both the supply of 20,000 payhones and the management system.
20,000 of the latest generation of eXANTO payphones will be supplied as well as the corresponding PMSV7 payphone management system. The Multimedia & Pay System (MPS) business unit of Ascom SA in France is responsible for the delivery. Furthermore, Ascom MPS will take over the training of Mobilink employees as well as the support for the maintenance. The first payphones will already be delivered in July 2005. Within 24 month the supply of all payhones is to be completed.
Jean-Paul Manson, Head of Multimedia & Pay Systems, explains, “Mobilink’s order confirms the excellent competence of Ascom MPS in delivering comprehensive state-of-the-art payphone solutions. We are pleased that Ascom MPS has been awarded this major tender against renowned competitors. We are dedicated to support Mobilink in building up a broad, reliable payphone network to make public communication accessible for each inhabitant of Algeria”.
Mobilink is a private telecommunications company located in Algiers. It has been awarded a payphone license by Algerie Telecom.
The eXANTO payphones accept the latest generation of smart cards and are characterised by advanced features as for example graphic display screens or soft keys for higher user friendliness. The central management system PMSV7 is responsible for administration and monitoring the 20,000 payphones, special safety, economic and marketing aspects as well as adverts on the displays.
The telecommunications infrastructure in Algeria experienced a real upswing in the last years. Beyond this order, Algeria, with approximately 30 million inhabitants, offers a largely untapped potential for public communication.
Mobilink aims at playing a leading role in that segment, making public communication accessible for each inhabitant of Algeria through a broad and reliable payphone network.
