Argentina's intelligence service will report to authorities in a couple of days that Iran and the Lebanese Hezbollah group masterminded the 1994 bombing of a Jewish charities federation headquarters building in Buenos Aires that killed 85 people, local media reported Sunday.
"The government of Iran and armed units of the pro-Iranian armed group Hezbollah were behind the horror of July 18, 1994, that at 9:53 in the morning killed 85 people in Once, in downtown Buenos Aires," which injured another 200, the report leaked to the dailies Clarin and Pagina/12 charges.
Juan Jose Galeano, the federal judge in charge of the investigation is expected to receive the report this week, the newspapers reported.
"For the first time an official body will draw a conclusion on the international leads in the worst terrorist attack in Argentina's history. It remains to be seen whether the judge will accept the intelligence conclusion," a Clarin editorial said.
The intelligence report, according to the media reports, names Iranian government officials and Hezbollah leaders whom the intelligence report concludes gave the order to blow up the building housing the headquarters of the Argentine Jewish Mutual Association charities umbrella group.
Additionally, the report heading to Galeano alleges Moshen Rabbani, the former cultural attaché of the Iranian embassy in Buenos Aires, served as the operational chief of the attack, which Tehran, for its part, always has denied. (Albawaba.com)
