Palestinian President Yasser Arafat is expected in Saudi Arabia Tuesday for a two-day visit focusing on developments in the Middle East peace process.

Arafat, on his first visit to Riyadh since the start of the year, will inform Saudi leaders of the results of his April 20 meeting in Washington with US President Bill Clinton, Palestinian ambassador to Riyadh Mustapha Dib said Saturday.

Arafat will also brief the Saudis on his talks in Paris Wednesday with French President Jacques Chirac.

A fresh round of Israeli-Palestinian peace talks is due to begin in the Israeli Red Sea resort of Eilat on Sunday after two unsuccessful rounds of talks in Washington.

Under the timetable agreed on in their Sharm el-Sheikh accord, the two sides are supposed to have a framework "final-status" accord in place by May 13 and a definitive accord signed by September 13.

Arafat has vowed to declare a Palestinian state with Jerusalem as its capital after the September 13 deadline with or without an agreement with Israel - (AFP)
