A series of draft resolutions and recommendations pertaining to the Arab-Israeli conflict, rejection of the US unilateral sanctions on Syria, solidarity with Syria and Lebanon in the face of foreign pressures in addition to activation of Beirut summit peace initiative were approved during Arab Foreign Ministers’ final meeting to be submitted to Tuesday's Arab Summit in Algiers.
"Draft resolutions on peace initiative, mechanism of activating it, the Palestinian cause, activation of the ministerial committee in addition to two draft resolutions on developing the United Nations and enlarging the UN Security Council were debated by FMs during a closed session." Algerian Foreign Minister, Abdul-Aziz Belkhadem told reporters in a joint press conference with Arab League Secretary General Amer Moussa.
Belkhadem pointed out to a number of decisions to be presented by AL Economic Social Council related to Arab Free Trade Zone, evolving transport among Arab countries, supporting and developing tourist sector economic, social council and other Arab specialized ministerial councils and activating them.
"Arab peace initiative poses the main way to solve the Arab Israeli conflict," Moussa said, stressing that "we will not give up Jerusalem and the issue of refugees to return home in accordance with the UN resolution 194."
Moussa described statements made by some Israeli officials on readiness of ten Arab states for peace with Israel after Algiers Summit, as "ridiculous statements," particulary that Israel goes on in building settlements and the racial separation wall as well as it still occupies Arab territories and ignores all the international resolutions.
Belkhadem concurred with Moussa, telling reporters the summit "will not be the summit of normalization."
The summit will be marred by the absence of the presidents of Lebanon, Yemen and the United Arab Emirates, the kings of Bahrain, Jordan and Saudi Arabia and the rulers of Kuwait and Oman, but Libyan leader Moamer Kadhafi has already arrived in Algeria.
