Acer, a company known for continually pushing the boundaries of business and consumer hardware, has taken another step towards the forefront of the convergence market with the launch of the company’s first 8 megapixel digital camera – the super-slim Acer CR 8530.

A professional standard camera with the ease-of-use of a point-and-shoot, the new camera typifies Acer’s ethos: high-end technology, attractive design, fully convergent with other consumer electronics devices and all at an affordable price.

“It has been estimated that of the 130 billion pictures taken worldwide in 2003, 40 billion were in digital form, and that figures is expected to soar to 215 billion images by 2008,” said Graham Braum, business development manager, mobile products, Acer Computer (M.E.) Ltd.

“The Middle East has been quick to catch on to this digital photography trend, and Acer is aiming to capitalize on this growing appetite,” continued Braum.

Acer’s range of digital cameras, all relatively new to the Middle East, are selling well across the region, as more and more customers become in-tune with the versatility, easy storage and fun of digital photography.

“The attraction of digital photography is the ability to display, edit and send images with the use of a computer, creating a highly personal and unique digital imaging storybook. The possibilities are endless,” added Braum.

The 8 megapixel camera comes with a 128MB or 512MB SD card, a 2.5 inch LCD display and a built-in flash with different shooting modes to prevent red-eye. With an attractive black housing it also comes with ArcSoft/NTI photo software.

“Shooting with the new Acer CR 8530 is easy thanks to scene program modes from full automatic to full manual. With the 8 megapixel resolution, the end result is stunning when printed, even in A3 format,” continued Braum.

The CR 8530 also features a 3x optical zoom lens and an optical viewfinder, and comes with a leather cover and USB cables to connect to other devices.

“With additional video functions and audio recording facilities, the new Acer 8 megapixel camera is about as exciting as digital photography gets. For those who haven’t yet experienced the fun that digital photography offers, it’s difficult to imagine a more compelling reason to now do so,” concluded Braum.
