In collaboration with the UAE Schools Federation, the Pepsi Sport Fiesta basketball and football school tournaments kicked off at Dubai Global Village.
54 teams from various UAE intermediate and high schools have registered, and the tournaments will run until March. The games began with a football match between the seniors of Alshoula Private School and Alhekmah Private School, and a basketball game between seniors of Alshoula Private School and the Technology Institute.
Alshoula Private School progressed to the next stage of the football league winning 2-0, but lost to the Technology Institute in the basketball tournament 20-10.
“The recently concluded Slam Jam and Powerball tournaments were fantastic, and now the fun continues with the schools tournament. With so many enthusiastic teams registered, the tournament looks set to be the most exciting yet,” said May El-Labban, Marketing Projects Manager, Dubai Refreshments Company (DRC), the sole franchisee and distributor of PepsiCo products in Dubai and Northern Emirates.
Other school teams competing in the tournament include the American School in Sharjah, Dubai National School, Ahlieh Khayrieh School, Itihad Jumeirah, Albahth Scientific School and Ahmed Bin Hanbal School.
In addition to the main school league, the Sports Fiesta held a one day football tournament exclusively for the Dubai Modern High School, where 88 players in 12 teams aged between 10-12 participated. The tournament concluded with Modern Chelsea winning 2-0 against Modern Shabab. All kids were treated with prizes from Pepsi and Wild Wadi.
Even if they are not registered to take part, youngsters are invited to use the Pepsi Sports Fiesta facilities at the Global Village site free of charge, every day from 5:00 to 11:00pm, until the end of February.
