The provisional government of Egyptian announced on this Tuesday that it will soon start to investigate the wealth of the former president Hosni Mubarak, as part of the measures to try to wipe out the corruption and to transform the image of the country.
The Supreme Council of the Armed Forces stated that it will form a judicial commission to investigate Mubarak, his wife Suzanne and his two sons Alaa and Gamal and theirs wives. They have already been banned to travel abroad and their assets were ordered to frozen by general prosecutor Abdel Magid Mahmoud.
According to yallafinance, the judiciary has also banned several Ministers, officials and former members of the National Democratic Party to leave the country pending further investigations.
The Mubarak regime fell on February 11 after three weeks of demonstrations, passing the power to military forces with a commitment to punish those found guilty of abuse of power.
The Egyptian justice froze Mubarak accounts in order that stolen money does not disappear. Switzerland also froze Mubarak finances and some other European Union countries also followed suit. 25 senior officers of the former government are already under investigation for illegal financial leverage manipulations while they worked for the ex president.
Unofficial estimates say the stolen wealth from the Egyptian population may reach $ 70 billion dollars, making Mubarak the richest person in the world, ahead of personalities as the Mexican businessman Carlos Slim, Microsoft Chairman Bill Gates and mega-investor Warren Buffett .
Meanwhile, millions of Egyptians live on less than $ 2 dollars per day. Experts say the corruption in Egypt costs more than $ 6 billion of public money every year.
