US Republicans are often well-known for their focus on defense, including overseas. And as the threat of Daesh (ISIS) continues to terrify Americans, foreign policy will be at the forefront in the 2016 presidential elections.

That hasn't stopped from GOP candidates from making some outlandish comments. Here are some of the highlights.

1. Of course the media favorite, Donald Trump, saying he can easily take Daesh out with force:

I would knock the hell out of them, but I’d put a ring around it and I’d take the oil for our country.

2. Florida Gov. Jeb Bush getting interrogated about his brother's controversial Iraq War:

Knowing what we know now, with faulty intelligence, and not having security be the first priority when — when we invaded, it was a mistake.

3. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, saying leaders should all be like Sisi (and completely ignoring the countless human rights violations):

We need a president that shows the courage that Egypt’s President al-Sisi, a Muslim, when he called out the radical Islamic terrorists who are threatening the world.

4. Rand Paul, R-Ky., expressing concern about all the stolen Humvees in the hands of Daesh:

ISIS rides around in a billion dollars worth of US Humvees. It’s a disgrace. We’ve got to stop — we shouldn’t fund our enemies, for goodness sakes.

5. Cruz wanting to revoke citizenship to expats joining Daesh:

Of course it’s an ideological problem, that’s one of the reasons I introduce the Expatriate Terrorist Act in the Senate that said if any American travels to the Middle East and joining ISIS, that he or she forfeits their citizenship so they don’t use a passport to come back and wage jihad on Americans.
