A video has been trending on Facebook of a hijabi who executes a perfect layup in Islamic attire—not to mention flats! The clip shows an American Somali girl, who plays on her varsity high school team, teaching the opposing boys team a lesson. Watch below:
Some social media users praised the video, claiming that this was the real America in a reference to Trump’s restrictions on immigrant travel:
However, others were cconfused as to why it was a big deal in the first place:
Others still responded that the video was meant to change people’s perspective on Muslim women and rewrite the narrative that they are all oppressed and subjugated.
All in all, the video generated a healthy discussion and raised awareness, which was the ultimate goal--or should we say basket?
