ALBAWABA - UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer reportedly approved a $335 million police fund to help UK police tackle cases of anti-Semitic hate crimes in areas with a significant Jewish population.
The Metropolitan Police will receive $115 million to be used to recruit an extra 300 officers in and around Jewish centers. This comes after a series of recent anti-Semitic attacks in London, notably the stabbing of two Jewish men in April, the BBC reported.
The Greater Manchester Police is set to receive $29.5 million as it recorded an attack in Heaton Park last year where two other Jewish men were killed.
Seven other police areas; Hertfordshire, Essex, Sussex, Thames Valley, West Midlands, West Yorkshire, and Northumbria, are set to share a $57.6 million fund between them as they also contain a significant Jewish minority population.
Finally, about $55 million will go to national police coordination to ensure that any potential hate crimes are stopped before they happen; this includes anti-Semitism training for all police officers in England and Wales, along with $79 million to counter-terrorism police.
Keir Starmer stated that the funding would deliver "a step change in protection and policing so Jewish communities can live and celebrate their faith free from fear".
