ALBAWABA - The Uzumaki anime has finally ended after four episodes but what seemed to be a promising start, all came crashing down after its second episode aired, leaving Junji Ito fans disappointed due to a significant downgrade in animation and visuals.
Furthermore, the anime rushed through the storyline which was adopted from the award-winning horror manga by iconic mangaka Junji Ito. The author who has a background in Dental Technology can't seem to catch a break when it comes to anime adaptations with Uzumaki unfortunately only showing promise in its first episode.
It all started when the anime changed animation studios due to time constraints, making whoever was responsible for episode one out of the equation.
Uzumaki review: A promising start, hindered by production downgrades
(Uzumaki / Adult Swim / Junji Ito)
An executive producer revealed that they were "Screwed over" in production and were given three options including not finishing the episode and calling it a loss, leaving the anime incomplete with just one episode, or airing it all with its problems.
Uzumaki's first episode proved to be one of the most unique anime adaptations of the year due to its monochromatic color palette, stunning yet terrifying imagery, and spectacular animation despite being 3D which isn't Japan's strongest suit.
The only thing that kept its quality in the four aired episodes was the ambient yet horrifying soundtrack which suited Uzumaki's theme brilliantly.
Episode three did slightly redeem the anime in question, but it left many Junji Ito fans wanting more out of it from a visual and story-telling standpoint.
Both Blue Lock and Uzumaki are being mocked on social media
Other than Uzumaki, the anime adaptation of Blue Lock's second season (The best-selling manga series in the first half of 2023) is receiving the same treatment with its recent episodes feeling like watching a PowerPoint slideshow rather than an animated one.
Both anime are currently being mocked by fans across social media platforms through a series of reels comparing them to other animes, and comedic sequences.
Uzumaki had a strong start but what made it so great, got lost down the line despite efforts from the production team showing in specific scenes in episodes three and four.
