Must-watch superhero shows you never heard of

ALBAWABA- The superhero market has been over-saturated for years but what if we told you that some hidden gems deserve your full attention and are available to watch right now?  Take a look at Al Bawaba's must-watch superhero shows you might have never heard of.

Comic book adaptations have been on a high lately with many of them receiving spin-offs and TV shows. unfortunately, some of these shows go underappreciated.

1) Doom Patrol (4 seasons) HBO Max/ DC [2019–2023]

Superhero

Based on the comic book by Arnold Drake, Bob Haney and Bruno Premiani, comes the Doom Patrol team consisting of outcasts and traumatized superheroes that suffered a horrible accident giving them supernatural abilities.

The story follows Doom Patrol and their journey to rescue their chief and doctor that suddenly disappeared because of the villainous Mr Nobody

DC's Doom Patrol team consists of Niles Caulder aka The Chief,  Rita Farr aka Elasti-Woman, Larry Trainor aka Negative Man, Cliff Steele aka Robotman, Kay Challis aka Crazy Jane and last but not least Victor Stone aka Cyborg.

2) Constantine (1 season) Warner Bros. / NBC / DC [2014–2015]

Superhero

Based on DC's horror comic book series Hellblazer by Jamie Delano, comes the TV series Constantine.  The story follows demon hunter and detective John Constantine. 

The master of the occult aka John Constantine struggles with his faith and his sinful past but finds himself in the role of saving humanity from hell's darkest forces. 

Unfortunately, Hellblazer fans did not get enough of this show since it got canceled after 1 season only, this does not automatically make it a bad watch!  Fans have been trying to revive the show because of Matt Ryan's excellent portrayal of the beloved character in hopes of getting a second season. 

Season 1 is still worth the watch even though the series got cancelled.

3) Invincible (1 season) Amazon Prime/ Wind Sun Sky Entertainment [2021-]

Invincible is a violent and gritty animated series based on the Image Comics comic book series of the same name. It is written by Robert Kirkman, and illustrated by Cory Walker and Ryan Ottley. 

The show follows the story of a teenage boy and his father who is the most powerful superhero on earth! As the boy (Mark Grayson) develops his own powers and learns more about his father, he discovers that his father might not seem as heroic as he is portrayed by the community. 

Invincible is confirmed to be getting seasons 2 and 3!

4) Legion (3 seasons) FX/ Marvel [2017–2019]

Superhero

Legion is the most underrated show on the list, everything about it is unique and new!  It follows the story of David Haller, a troubled schizophrenic man that develops unusual powers changing his life forever. 

The series is based on Marvel's comic book series Legion by Chris Claremont; Bill Sienkiewicz. It ran for 3 seasons and ended properly, so what are you waiting for? grab your popcorn and watch it!

5) Peacemaker (1 season) HBO Max/ DC [2022 -]

If you watched The Suicide Squad movie, Peacemaker picks up right after it as he returns home to recover from his fight with Bloodsport. He quickly finds out that his freedom comes at a price. 

John Cena's Peacemaker is not your ordinary hero, he is a man that fights for peace no matter the cost, even if he has to kill someone.  The show is based on the comic book series by DC and is directed by the legendary James Gunn! 

According to Collider, season 2 is on the way with John Cena back as Peacemaker and James Gunn as the director but it might be a long time till it is released unfortunately.

6) Misfits (5 seasons) E4 [2009–2013]

Superhero

Misfits is an original British superhero series that aired on Britain's E4, it follows the story of 5 juveniles sentenced to work in community service where they get struck by lightning and gain powers.

What makes this show unique is simply its characters, they are relatable and their superpowers are based on their personalities. 

The show is based in gritty Wertham, often simply called The Estate, which is a fictional borough of inner-city London, United Kingdom (Misfits wiki).
