She has seen down Algerian Islamists and a boycott campaign over the cost of the show and now Elissa is confirmed as performing in the North African nation. Algeria's Tourism and Culture Committee confirmed that the concert will go ahead on July 2 to celebrate Algeria's fifty years of independence.

Officials blamed Islamic political parties for circulating rumors that the concert had been cancelled but they could also have come from campaign groups angry that Elissa's fee would amount to nearly half the total cost of the festival. According to reports, she will get 90,000 US dollars for the performance.

Elissa shot down reports of any postponement, though, saying that all preparations for the performance were underway and on schedule. At the same time, Algerian officials warned that anyone attempting to make commotion during her concert would face intense security measures.
