Best things announced at Netflix Geeked Week 2023

Netflix

Netflix /  Supergiant Games

1) Avatar: The Last Airbender live-action

We are finally getting an Avatar: The Last Airbender live-action series that looks like it'll not suck, unlike the movie adaptation which was a horrifying take on the animated series for its subpar acting, story, and CGI.

We hope this series will give Avatar the redemption arc it deserves!

It tells the story of the four nations who once lived in harmony with the Avatar ( a master of all elements) keeping the peace between them. Everything changed when the Fire Nation attacked and wiped out all the avatars in existence except one boy named Ang.

Follow Ang and his two friends, Sokka and Katara as they embark on a journey full of adventures and difficulties.

Expect Avatar: The Last Airbender live-action in 2024. Netflix still hasn't confirmed a specific release date.

2) Scott Pilgrim Takes Off the final trailer

The final trailer for Science Saru's Scott Pilgrim Takes Off anime was revealed this week showcasing more of what to expect from one of Netflix's most anticipated animated series.

Scott Pilgrim Takes Off is based on Bryan Lee O'Malley's graphic novel that goes by the same name and tells the story of a 20-something-year-old rocker from Toronto, Canada as he struggles in life jumping from one job to another while also avoiding getting kicked out of his apartment.

Moreover, Scott is faced with a new challenge after falling in love with the new girl in town, forcing him to survive the wrath of her seven exes. The graphic novel ran from 2004 to 2010 and inspired a live-action movie, a video game, and an animated short by Titmouse Studios in 2010.

Scott Pilgrim Takes Off releases on Nov. 17, 2023. Watch it here when it comes out.

3) Sweet Home 2

The sequel for one of the best horror and thriller Korean Drama on Netflix!

Netflix's Sweet Home is based on the Korean Webtoon of the same name and tells the story of a high school boy who leaves his home after a tragic family incident only to find himself in a more difficult and horrifying spot.

A reality where monsters are trying to take over humanity as he and the people around him fight for survival.

Sweet Home 2 will hit Netflix on Dec. 1, 2023.

4) The Umbrella Academy: Season 4 - Final Season

Netflix's adaptation of  Gerard Way's Umbrella Academy is finally coming to an and we couldn't be more excited for its return because season 3 left us with one hell of a cliffhanger.

Although Netflix didn't give us an exact release date except that it's coming in 2024, the show will pick up from where season 3 ended.

Netflix referred to season four in the trailer's description as:

"Get ready for the best THE UMBRELLA ACADEMY season yet. The countdown to 2024 begins now."

If you still haven't watched The Umbrella Academy, we really think it's worth giving a shot.

Watch all seasons here.

5) The Witcher: Sirens of The Deep

An animated Geralt of Rivia coming in 2024!

Netflix's Witcher universe is getting a tad bit bigger with the newest animated installment of the franchise, The Witcher: Sirens of The Deep.

The movie seems to be going deeper into The Continent and gives fans a bunch of familiar faces such as Geralt of Rivia.

Fun fact: American voice actor, Doug Cockle is coming back to voice Geralt!

The movie will cover incidents from the original books as Geralt, a mutated monster hunter, is hired to investigate a series of attacks happening on the seaside of a small village only to find himself in a conflict between humans and merpeople.

6) Dead Boy Detectives

A series based on the DC Comics of the same name. Dead Boy Detectives was going to air on Max but had a change in production after it was taken over by Netflix.

Dead Boy Detectives is an upcoming fantasy drama that tells the story of two best friends who happen to be ghosts as they investigate evil witches, hell, and death.

Netflix announced the show under the coming soon section.

7) DAMSEL

A high-budget dark fantasy movie starring  Stranger Things's Millie Bobby Brown.

It tells the story of a Damsel who marries a handsome prince only to find out that his royal family sacrificed her in order to repay a ritualistic debt. She gets thrown into a cave where a dragon resides leaving her on a mission of wits and survival.

Damsel is coming only to Netflix in 2024.

8) The Brothers Sun

The iconic Michelle Yeoh is back!

It tells the story of a legendary killer called Charles “Chairleg” Sun as he heads to Los Angeles to protect his mother and naive son after his father who is the head of a powerful Taiwanese triad was murdered.

The first game on the list and it's a pretty good one!  Hades is considered one of the most stunning and fun roguelikes of the decade.

The game was first released in 2020 and was developed by  Supergiant Games which also created amazing titles such as Bastion and Transistor.

It tells the story of the son of Hades as he goes on a journey through Hell's dungeons while defying all the gods in his way.

Hades is available on macOS, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4|5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and soon on Netflix via iOS and Android!

We still don't have an exact release date for Hades.

10) Katana Zero

Another excellent game is coming to Netflix! An action-packed, fast-paced side scroller about a Samurai in a unique retro Cyberpunk setting.

It follows the story of an Amnesia-ridden katana-wielding samurai who can slow down time as he slashes his way through enemies. He unveils his past every time he completes an assassination contract.

We still don't have an exact release date for Katana Zero.

This concludes the list. For more trailers and info, visit Netflix's official YouTube channel.
