The Army’s Intelligence Branch has arrested two men for the assault and attempted kidnapping of a man in Zahle, the Army said in a statement Sunday. M.T. and Gh.D. were arrested in Baalbeck after assaulting Dani Nabil al-Tin. Tin was driving through the Zahle town of Hawsh al-Umara Thursday night when a car blocked his path. The men inside claimed to be Army intelligence officers.

When 23-year-old Tin stopped, they got into his car and beat him with the butt of a pistol. They drove to the town of Bodai, where they threw Tin out onto the road and drove off in his car. He was found by a Bodai resident and taken to Baalbeck’s Mortada Hospital. Residents of Zahle Friday blocked the main highway with burning tires to protest the incident.

Minister of State for Presidency Affairs Salim Jreissati issued a statement calling on security forces to “put a stop to” what he called a “dangerous security phenomenon.” In September, the Internal Security Forces located and freed a man, identified as Joseph Hanoush, who had been kidnapped in Bekaa a month earlier.
