A woman turned herself in to police after she saw herself in CCTV footage performing a sex act on a train.

A 16-year-old passenger saw the scene unfold on June 28 and immediately called police.

However Amanda Barrow, from Newbury, Berkshire, told a court that she was so drunk she had no memory of what had happened.

It was only later when the 43-year-old saw the CCTV images of herself, and a man she didn't know, on the train to Aldermaston station in a public appeal that she realised what had happened.

Barrow was given a 12-month community order and required to complete 120 hours unpaid community work.

She was also ordered to complete 15 days of rehabilitation.

She will have to pay £385 ($501) costs, plus a statutory victim surcharge of £85 ($110).

She initially denied the charge of outraging public decency by engaging in sexual activity in public.

However she later admitted to the offence at Reading Magistrates' Court.

Steve Molloy, who was defending Barrow, said that the full-time cleaner was 'extremely embarrassed by the public humiliation'.

He added that it was not something she would have done if she had been sober.

After she had broken up with her partner, Barrow resorted to binge drinking.

District Judge Sophie Toms acknowledged that Barrow had not had a drink since her rehabilitation programme in Swanswell, Newbury but stressed the severity of the act being witnessed by a child.

Judge Toms said: 'I'm pleased you haven’t had a drink since.

'She was a child, there was some effect upon her and that is the main point of the case’.
