Sharjah Police Warns People of Fake Social Media Accounts in Bid to Fraud

Sharjah Police issue statement after receiving reports of online fraud.

Sharjah Police has warned people in UAE about fake social media accounts involved in fraud cases.

In a statement issued online, Sharjah Police said that it had received many reports from victims of online frauds by anonymous users, who created fake social media accounts posing as high profile public figures persons in UAE.

Modus operandi

Fake accounts duped victims by asking them to transfer money into particular bank accounts, so that they can collect the money and take it out of UAE.

Sharjah Police urged social media users to not engage and deal with such fake accounts, and to immediately report such fraudulent activities.

The force reiterated that they were focusing all of their efforts to prevent such crimes.
