He was declared bankrupt in 2015 and had one month left in his bankruptcy period when he won the lottery cash.

Australian police were puzzled to know a jail inmate reportedly won $973,320 lottery jackpot despite being behind bars.

Reginald Roberts, 64, Australian biker allegedly associated with the Hell's Angels gang has been in jail since a February after he was arrested on smuggling charges.

Roberts received a $973,320 deposit into his bank account from a lottery jackpot in April.

Australian Federal Police said on Monday that the lottery prize money was considered suspicious and was transferred out of the account shortly after it was deposited.

Although, investigators do not consider lottery jackpot to be linked to suspicious activities, they are perplexed how Roberts managed to obtain a lottery ticket while imprisoned.

Roberts was arrested in connection with a cargo ship loaded with what police described as the largest crystal methamphetamine importation in South Australian history. He was declared bankrupt in May 2015 and had one month left in his bankruptcy period when he won the lottery cash, according to UPI report.
