Many might think money can buy you a fast-track ticket into the upper echelons of society, but internet users claim your class is in fact determined by manners.
People from around the world took to Q&A site Quora to reveal the tell-tale traits that mark someone out as not being 'upper class'.
Writing on the thread, users explained swearing, speaking with your mouth open and making sex jokes would make someone 'lower class', no matter how well-educated or wealthy they are.
The posters were responding to the question: 'What screams Lower class in a supposedly well educated upper classy person?'
One wrote: 'Swearing a lot. Talking with food in your mouth. Interrupting others frequently. Not shaking hands at introductions.
'Throwing napkins, tissues, plastic wrap and multiple utensils onto your 'finished' plate in a restaurant.
The post continued: 'Talking about how much money you have. Sniffing loudly when your nose is runny instead of finding a tissue and turning away to blow your nose. Making a lot of sex jokes.'
It added went on to share people who are late to RSVP and blow bubbles are likely to not be as well off as you may think.
One poster put it plainly when he said 'class can't be bought'.
'I've seen a guy in a $150,000 car throw trash out of his window into the parking lot 5′ from a trash can.
'I've also seen a minimum wage worker pick up trash like that, not because it was his job, but because he was passing buy and it was a good thing to do. Which one has more class?'
'Class is how you treat yourself and everyone and everything around you. Classy people don't talk down to or otherwise treat people with less money than them as 'lesser' people.'
A third added to the list with: 'Sitting with your legs wide open as a sign of confidence. Thank you, close your legs now.
'Touting your achievements: real achievers understand the misfortunes of other people without the need to humiliate them.
'Removing your socks at the office, in public…etc. Under-tipping at a restaurant.'
Another post read: 'Bragging about their wealth and looking down on others.
'For some reason is very common that people who didn't have any money and suddenly became rich (through marriage, shady business, luck…) tend to brag about their stuff, to be rude, and treat others poorly.'
