A furious mum in Hull said she was told to change her son's haircut to keep him in school, but when she did teachers said his new style wasn't up to scratch.
Sarah Everett, 40, took her son Callum Manning home last week after he was threatened to be expelled for his shaved hairstyle.
She said he was taken twice to hairdressers to ensure he could remain in class.
'When I came back into school, a teacher said that it was cut too much down the side and accused me of shaving it again just to get a line put in,' Everett said.
'But I was just trying to get it blended so that Callum could come back to school without having it all cut off.'
Remarkably, 12-year-old Callum is the fourth boy to be punished by Kingswood Academy due to haircuts.
Three other boys — aged 11 to 13 — were also pulled up and sent to the barbers for a trim, or risk being put in isolation.
Everett claims the school enforces a stricter policy on boys as her daughter went to the same school and never faced trouble with her hair.
'I could understand if I'd sent him in with a Mohican or blue hair but it's the same hair cut that Callum has had for the past two years,' she said.
'It's quite upsetting — it's a school after all and not the military.'
Kingswood Academy said the school's policy on haircuts is clearly set out, a spokesperson said.
'We at the academy have the highest of expectations regarding uniform, including hairstyles. The policy is sent out annually to parents and displayed on the website.'
